I was raised in an Irish/Spanish Catholic home, the youngest of four children. Love of God and country, hard work, and personal responsibility were bedrock principles in my upbringing. I have lived in California since age 5 and plan to retire here on my three-acre country property. I have raised dairy goats and meat and egg-laying chickens. I am an organic gardener and intermittent beekeeper. I enjoy rowing, biking, kettlebells, and Thomistic philosophy. I buy more hardbound classic books than I should.
The joy of my earthly life is Alice, my wife of 35 years, and our six wonderful children. Two lovely granddaughters have recently arrived on scene, with the hope of many more grandchildren to follow.
I won my first State Personnel Board (SPB) case in 1995, while serving as a Deputy Attorney General under A.G. Dan Lungren. In the ensuing three decades, I successfully resolved literally hundreds of other SPB cases: some as an attorney for State agencies, some as a defender of State workers, and many others in my role as an Administrative Law Judge with the SPB.
As an active member of the California State Bar, I am widely regarded as one of California’s finest defenders of State workers appearing before the SPB. My record of successfully resolving SPB cases, including successful writs of mandate in California’s superior courts, speaks for itself.
